what is the what

In backwards chronological order because I am too lazy to reverse the orders of the pictures here is why I haven't been blogging lately! Because I was. . .

1. Graduating !!
2. Hosting my awesome parents, boy, and his hilarious parents in Albany for graduation.
3. Trying to rock climb after a 4 year hiatus (not pretty!)
4. Going to Zion with boy (very pretty!)
5. Hanging out in Guatemala. . .

6. Trying to learn medical spanish while in Guatemala.

7. Celebrating boy's birthday.
8. And visiting Sara and her super cute little boys in Seattle.

I figured since I still check your blogs every day I might as well post finally~ now I am frantically nesting in preparation for starting residency NEXT monday. Wow. More updates to follow!

sometimes there is a silver lining

My hard drive ate it this week, meaning I've lost everything on there. In a way it's been nice because all of those old assignments that I really don't want but never get around to deleting are now gone. And THANKFULLY my Christmas present this year was printing out my favorite 1000 or so pictures that I've taken since getting a digital camera. So at least I have those pictures (and their digital counterparts on Snapfish). The funny part of it is that I was literally in Circuit City last weekend holding an external hard drive in my hand when I thought, no, I'll wait and do a bit more research before buying one of these. Should have listened to my intuition.

The silver lining is that I found this picture among the ones I'd printed out when searching for a new background picture. This is the salt flats a few years ago. Awesome.

I totally do this!

I was just perusing the NY Times and came across this article. Then these lines jumped out at me-

"Many of the women said that as the economic crisis struck last fall, they began tracking the markets during the day to predict the moods that the men they loved might be in later."

I do this!! Boy is great about trying not to let the bad economic times (which translate often into people being mad at him at work) change how he treats me/the mood he's in but sometimes it just happens. I am exponentially more in tune with the stupid Dow than I have ever been. The rest of the article doesn't really relate to our relationship, but those lines sure do.

o'goodness

I should probably post about my adventures in Ft. Duschene (cowboy country) or my amazing one night trip to Seattle (got to meet Sara's beautiful babies) but I'll wait to upload my pictures for that. Instead, here's a restaurant recommendation. . .

If you live in the SLC area or will be visiting check out O'Falafel in Sugarhouse. Boy and I have now been there twice and it's amazing. Super fresh, locally owned, really reasonable prices, and a HUGE menu. They've got the traditions things (like, uh, falafel) but also lots of dishes I've never heard of that are really tasty. I really want this place to make it so go patronize this place!!

the best presents come in small packages

Boy and I just exchanged Christmas gifts tonight since I leave for home in the morning and he's not joining me there until the day after Christmas. I have been lusting after a roof top car rack for years and years and years. Luckily for me (and unluckily for boy) he has one saved from his car that he sadly totalled a few years back. Part of my Christmas gift was these nifty adapters that will make his car rack fit my car. Dreams really do come true!
Sadly boy was not quite as excited about part of his present from me. . .a pancake griddle! We love making breakfast together and it always takes forever to make the pancakes because we have to use tiny frying pans. Now we can cook 4 pancakes at a time!! No worries, I also got him some other presents he was a bit more excited for :)

there is hope for Utah

Most people think of Utah as a staunchly republican state and don't realize that wasn't always the case. Here are some amazing pictures of President Kennedy speaking in the Tabernacle and chatting up the LDS leaders. Interesting!

another post!

I was just talking with an old friend about politics and I thought about how great this election was. People seemed really engaged, no matter what their views. Two people in my life who have always been fairly conservative suprised me by either voting for Obama or saying that they would be totally ok if Obama won. Other people who would traditionally be more liberal due to their age group etc suprised me with their support for Mccain. I had so many great conversations about what this country needs with all sorts of people. I'm, of course, excited that my candidate won (not like in 2000, or 2004. . .) but more excited that so many people seem committed to shaking things up and trying to make things better. Here's to hoping that everything comes up roses!

guess who's getting married?!

Not me! My awesome brother is. He's been unofficially engaged for awhile (the date's set, the honeymoon planned) but still no ring until this past week. Our talented cousin Stacy collaborated with Ryan to surprise Ana Maria. Check out her website for more pictures (I stole this from there). They are both Latin ballroom dancers, so this picture makes me smile!

who's that?

Oh just my cousin in the NY Times. He's an actor in NYC. Pretty awesome. (he's the blond guy on the right)
